Silent Prayer...

Posted by Rhiannon Macfie on 2000-04-06

It was a dark and stormy night, and as the people of uk.religion.christian
huddled around the fire, Tim Jones told them this story:

> Absolutely, but in public worship I think the way silent prayer is
> introduced is very important. Some preachers get as far as realising
> that silence is wanted/needed, but think they can just suddenly chuck
> in a chunk of silence. In a way the silence is defined by what
> surrounds it.

"And now we`re going to have a time of silent prayer. Just
quieten your heart before the Lord now and pray in your own
heart to God. Just come before him and just enjoy his
presence here with us, and, in the silence now, just bring
before him whatever`s on your mind, knowing that he listens
and hears us when we pray to him. Afterwards the music
group are going to sing `Be Still For The Presence Of The
Lord`, which is number 6 in your Mission Praise books. So
let`s just quieten ourselves before him now and give our
hearts to him in this time of quiet. Let`s just be still
before him now and let him speak to us in the quiet of our
hearts as we bring our needs and our lives before him. You
might like to have your Mission Praise books open now ready
for when the music group starts playing. Number 6 in
Mission Praise, `Be Still For The Presence Of The Lord`.
Now let`s quieten ourselves before him and be aware of his
presence here among us now."

<10 seconds of silence>
